"The Christmas Mission"

I can't believe it's been 2 weeks since we posted on the blog.  It has been a very busy time, as you know....!  We just got back from Belize a few weeks ago and it was a whirlwind down there; over 400 children came to receive their Christmas gifts from their sponsors.  It was such a wonderful time of thanksgiving and praise.  As soon as we hit American soil, the rush began to prepare for the local mission project in our local school system.  "The Christmas Mission" blesses many many children in Hamblen and surrounding counties.  As teachers and principals contact our local coordinator; she prepares to shop, pack and prepare for the delivery of their Christmas gifts.  The teachers and principals are constantly aware of the needs of our local children and Hearts of Christ Children's Ministry has been involved with these contacts for several years.  Children coming to school without warm clothing, no winter coat, holes in their shoes...  this is a need that Hearts of Christ is so involved in.

On Tuesday, our local coordinator and 7 volunteers will be visiting several local schools in Hamblen County and delivering "The Christmas Mission" to these children in need.  We send out many thanks to all the people that have so graciously given so these kids can have Christmas; thanks to all the volunteers and bless our coordinator as she continues her service throughout the year for children in need.  January through December, she is on call to help meet the needs of our local children.  Hearts of Christ Children's Ministry; blessed again to serve another year in the Kingdom.  May all we say and do be for God's Glory!

He Made the Lame to Walk!

Hey Everyone,  Meet William Lopez!  William's mother was carrying him to school everyday; on her back!  The Lopez family lives "backa bush" as they say in Belize; which means they live quite a distance from others and in the jungle.  But, that didn't stop Ms. Lopez from getting William to his classroom.  A wheelchair was provided to William by Hearts of Christ Children's Ministry and the trip to school was not such a trial for Ms. Lopez.  Ms. Lopez is so dedicated to William; getting him to school (and staying there with him), helping with his lessons and working with him everyday to try and walk.  Her prayers, her faith and dedication...  answered!  William is walking with the assistance of his mother.  We never thought we would see this young fellow stand from his wheelchair and walk...  We Serve A Mighty God!

Belize; Day Five

Wow!  We have been in Belize for 5 days; time is flying by!  We traveled to several villages today and visited many schools.  More packages were distributed to sponsored children; it has been a busy task but we have enjoyed sharing Christmas with hundreds of children.  Today at Armenia children flocked around our car as we handed out Jesus stickers and pins.  Some asked, what does this mean?  Again, we had the opportunity to share Jesus with the children.  Please continue to pray for us as we travel to more villages tomorrow; we are planning some door-to-door evangelism.  Blessings,  Carla Jennings.

Sunday in Belize

This morning we visited Living Waters Fellowship and heard a wonderful and inspiring message from Pastor Frankie Wade...

Christmas Packages to the Sponsored Children

Today is our second day in Belize at Hearts of Christ Children's Ministry.  We have worked all day unpacking boxes, sorting school supplies, labeling totes and repacking and organizing all the items for the school sponsorship program that came to Belize on the international shipment from Morristown, TN.  Tomorrow all the children will come to pick up their Christmas packages from their sponsors; there will be over 400 of them!  Pray for us as we share the Christmas story.   Blessings,  Carla

Logan with her Sponsored Child

How wonderful to meet your sponsored child in Belize.  A relationship that will change the life of a child forever.  Logan has been blessed to meet Edin and intertwine her life with his.  The bond between them is very strong and Edin knows that Logan has given him the opportunity to receive an education and the sponsorship has opened the door for Christ to be shared and for lives to be changed.  Children in a third world country that never imagined some strange person from another country would come into their lives and the change the world as they know it; to find out that there is hope in Jesus Christ and that He will always be with them if they just let Him in.

A New Bike from My Sponsor

Eddison was so excited when Alicia delivered his new bike from his sponsor.  A new bike provides children with transportation to school.  Most students walk back home for lunch too and a bike is so wonderful for all the trips back and forth.  Thank you sponsors!

Christmas Packages for children of Belize

Hundreds of Christmas packages have been delivered for the children of Belize.  Hearts of Christ volunteers have worked tirelessly to prepare these packages for shipment to Belize.  One volunteer said "Can you believe so many people have packed these packages when they didn't have too".  It's an act of love, kindness, sharing and an answer to the call to help others in need.  Thank you!  Bless you!  The excitement and joy will be overwhelming when the container arrives on the Hearts of Christ Children's Ministry mission site in Roaring Creek Village, Belize.

These young ladies are part of the GA's (Girls In Action) from a local church.  They have sponsored a young girl named Sonia for several years.  They were so excited to drop their package off; they were still stuffing items in the bag that very day!

This sponsor and her son prayed over their package as they brought it to the drop off site.  A family praying for someone they have never met but have taken as a part of their family to share God's love and His blessings.

Pray for Caterina

Hello Faithful Prayer Warriors!

Please be in prayer for Caterina.  She is 12 years old and lives in a remote Belizean village.  She was in the United States last year and had a very large tumor removed from her face; it turned out to be cancerous and she went through 27 weeks of chemo.  The tumor has returned and returned with a vengeance.  It is growing out of her mouth and has covered most of her face.  She does not want to return to a hospital or receive any kind of treatment.  She is a very brave little girl.  She is not in much pain; pray that will continue.  This photo was taken after the initial tumor was removed and she had returned to her village in Belize.

Have You Made a Difference in Someone's Life?

We met these children in August while working the school distribution in Roaring Creek Village.  Their neighbor called our coordinator, Alicia, and told her to come and see the conditions they were living in.  It was devastating and hard to describe their home; slapboard built under a stilted porch just to get them out of the rain.  No shoes, very little clothing, no beds... just surviving on what the neighbors and friends can spare to give them.  We are trying to get them sponsors for school; shoes were delivered to them yesterday.  Pray for these children; you may be the called one that can help a child and make a difference!

780 Sponsored Children Thank You!! Bless You Sponsors!!!

Pray for us as we leave Belize in the morning for a bitter sweet trip home.  As much as we can't wait to see our families, it's hard to leave our friends and loved ones in Belize.

Korie and Alicia, thank you and may God bless you for the sacrifices you make to coordinate the mission teams in Belize.  This has been a great week to serve along side you on the mission field.  May God continue to bless Hearts of Christ Children's Ministry as we serve in His Holy Name.

Hearts of Christ August Mission Team

The school sponsorship distribution is in full swing!  The team has been working for three days now and we have seen over 700 sponsored children.  The number of mothers and children coming to ask for sponsorship has been overwhelming!  Everyday many stand at the mission site gate for hours just hoping that someone on the mission team might want to sponsor their child.  Tomorrow we travel to one remote village to distribute backpacks, textbooks, school uniforms and school supplies and our distribution mission will be completed.  It has been a great week!  The Lord has kept us safe and very busy!!

Sponsors have sent requests to purchase food for their sponsored child's family.  We have delivered several boxes of food in several villages.

Even Missy our mission "Guard" dog is very tired!!

Take a Look at the new Hearts of Christ addition

Hearts of Christ has tried to purchase this land for several years.  It borders the mission property on the back side.  The red building is empty and frequently visited by drug dealers and users.  The property owner finally agreed on a purchase price that the ministry could consider.  The loan for the property came quickly and now the land is titled to Hearts of Christ; Praise!  The ministry is now in the process of raising funds to repay the loan and to fence the property.  Please join us in prayer as the ministry grows and prospers.  Many thanks to so many that have already helped in repaying $7,000 on the property note.

My First Trip to Belize, Part 2

Today, we have more of Tara's story from her first trip to Belize. If you missed part 1, read here! And here is Tara's blog if you'd like to read more. Thank you so much for sharing with us, Tara! And if any of YOU would like to share your stories and experiences with Hearts of Christ, please let us know!

What's it like in Belize?

Well, in some places, it's beautiful.  Take the Maya Ruins for example.  It's gorgeous to look at and climb.  You experience an incredible view of Belize and Guatemala from the top of the ruins.  You see nothing but jungle and just a few roads.

And I mean, few.

There are only two main roads in Belize.  They are paved.  Most other roads besides that of the couple of big cities?  Dirt and gravel.  It's tough on your vehicle to say the least.

The sky and natural settings are immaculate...

...while most of the houses and buildings you see are decrepit.

The heat is intense, and the money is sparse.  So drinking often comes out of a pouch instead of a bottle.

And at Hearts of Christ Children's Ministry, people come to the gates every single day, wanting the help of people who  know Jesus.

Only HOC is without a missionary/missionary family to live on their grounds to help these people.  The only exposure they are able to have with the people of Belize right now is through the sponsorships of these children.  By ministering to the children, HOC ministers to the whole family.  By giving an education and clothing to the children, the family has higher hopes of having a healthier state of living.  And most importantly, by HOC ministering to the children, the entire family gets to hear and see the gospel.

The most important part.

My First Trip to Belize

Today, our friend, Tara Kirk, is sharing with us about her recent trip to Belize!

Over a week ago, I was in Belize.  And on one of the first days there, I was approached by this little boy's face:

Sweet, tiny little man of probably 5-6 years old, teeth that looked of wood, asked me if I had a sponsor for him.  Being my first trip with HOC, I did not know what to say as I didn't know the protocol for those who did not have sponsors.  My job was to make the snacks and take the pictures.

Children in Belize have to pay to go to school.  In a recent speech, I heard that about 49% of children can actually afford and go to school.  Out of that 49%, about 60% of them graduate.  Children are faced with the responsibility of making the money for their families, therefore school is not an option or not encouraged.  But through sponsorship, the family is loved on by families like yours, and school is an opportunity and encouragement.  Sponsorship covers their school tuition for a year as well as their uniform.  You can send the child Christmas gifts and letters too, if you desire.  Which you will.  More importantly, the gospel is shared, lives are changed and Jesus is a part of their lives.

Hearts of Christ gets sponsorships from everyday people like you and me.  But if they are out of sponsors, then these kids are simply and sadly left unhelped.  I know HOC would love to sponsor every single kid that comes to the Gate.  But if there is no money to give to the schools for the sponsorship, then it is monetarily impossible.

Throughout the next few weeks, I will be sharing stories through photographs about our life-changing trip to Belize.  Even though my bunk looked like this...

...we didn't wanna come back.  We weren't ready for America again.  It will never be the same.

"Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you."
Matthew 28:19-20 HCSB

Antioch Team Member Shares Testimony of Mission Trip

It was a day like any other when our team of eight boarded the plane for Belize;  Eight ordinary American church members: Pastor Pete, Tracy and Barbara, David and Dorothy, Dave, Tammie, and Dawn, (and Jen, who had gone earlier to Belize to prepare things) had spent time praying, along with the Antioch Church, and preparing over a mission project for the Belize people under the guidance of Hearts of Christ Ministries.
Our one week mission project was to share boxes of food, (heavy bags of beans and bags of rice) with 3 different villages (about 50 homes per village), build 10 sets of bunk beds, be a part of the ground work for a church plant, and share Christ with the people of Belize.  We also brought gift packages to the children sponsored by Antioch church members.
Our mornings started with devotions and precious times together to focus on the Lord.  A key word from our leader, “flexible”, would prove invaluable.
Next, we would set out for our first village, Georgetown, a future church plant.  We were informed prior to setting out that this area was known for witchcraft.  We would be going door to door to give food to families,  and invite the children to a small program where we would serve peanut butter sandwiches and Kool-Aid (for many of the children, they had never tasted peanut butter).
We pulled on to the grass near a small shelter in Georgetown and the vehicles were barely shut off when Mama’s, Daddy’s, and children  came scurrying, barefooted, or riding bikes through the rain, on dirt roads with deep potholes, or took short cuts through the trees and tall grass to get the rice and beans we offered. The children swarmed around team members who had “cross” chains or multi-colored beaded bracelets which told the gospel story by using the different colors, and baseball caps to give out.  Within minutes of our arrival, over 25 children had already come to the shelter, and over 100 would attend the small program that took place within the hour.  One man was led to the Lord. Many villagers told us they had Jesus in their hearts.
We went into the villages to give and to share.  We were seen by the villagers as “rich Americans”.  In each village we saw similarities.  In villages 60 minutes from the capital city we found homes that Americans would call “primitive huts”, with coconut branches or tin for roof tops, no physical windows or doors, just a hole cut out, thin wood or bamboo siding, most less than 300 sq feet. Some homes sat on stilts while others sat on the ground and had dirt for floors and rain often ran through those homes, many with no electricity nor indoor plumbing: rain water was captured in barrels for dish cleaning, laundry and bathing (and it rained hard, and a lot!); very few homes had furniture, and some huts had 14 family members living together and no beds to get them out of the rain flowing though the floor.  We were able to deliver 9 sets of bunk beds to homes that were truly grateful; the 10th set of bunk beds would have to wait for the rain to let up, as we found it was easy to get stuck in the muddy roadways.
Things change in your heart and mind when you receive a hug or look into the eyes of these villagers.  Many villagers told us they had Jesus in their hearts …beautiful smiles twinkled in their eyes that said “hope, not despair”, they were sincerely grateful for the small gifts we could give, and their respectfulness and caring was evident and truly humbling;  It caused me to pause and ask, who was really “rich”, and who were the truly needy?
A special thank you to the Hearts of Christ Ministry team that worked with us, Carla, Korie, Alicia, and Jen,  for all the work behind the scenes; for providing us with the opportunity to be a part of sharing in the work of Christ with the people of Belize.
If God is tugging at your heart to be involved in ministry, pray diligently; consider sponsoring a child in Belize to be able to go to school, or to learn a trade, and commit to meeting that child face to face; it will change your life and melt your heart and show you true needs.

Thank you
Dawn

Sponsor a Child in Belize; it will change your life!

Tammy took her first mission trip to Hearts of Christ Children's Ministry in Roaring Creek Village, Belize this month.  She was part of a team of 22 members that served in the school sponsorship program.  She was very perceptive of the needs of the children and asked questions about the program and the children.  Before the week was over, Tammy had sponsored several children.  She is not only providing them with a good education but she is going to be a bright light in their lives.  Telling them about the love of Jesus and how He can be their comfort and shelter will be the most important part of her journey with these children.

July Mission Team for School Sponsorship Program July 6-13, 2013

The team of 22 servants strong served at Hearts of Christ Children's Ministry in Roaring Creek Village from July 6-13, 2013.  It was an amazing team and what a wonderful week to share Christ with over 750 children and their families!

Twenty-six sponsored students graduated from high school in June.  Hearts of Christ held a graduation party for them at the Hearts of Christ mission house.  It was so uplifting to hear their testimonies and the testimonies of their parents.  Praise God for what He is doing through Hearts of Christ Children's Ministry!

Our team had a free day on Friday and we visited San Pedro Island.  We sat on the beach and witnessed to the children that came to sell their crafts.  One young boy, Ian, said he went to church and that his mom was a Christian.  He said he believed in Christ and that He died on the cross for our sins.  We asked him "What are you waiting for"? Ian prayed the prayer of salvation with us and accepted Christ as his personal savior that very day!

David, Jodie and Eddison - A Divine Meeting!

I first thought we would sponsor a little girl, but there was none available, so when Eddison came up to the door at the mission house, I knew the Lord wanted us to sponsor him. Eddison's parents are doing a great job raising him. He is an awesome little boy, polite, good manners, cute as a button. We are blessed to be able to sponsor Eddison.
Many, Many blessings and thanks to Korie and Alicia, Jenn, Pete and all involved with HOC ministry.

God bless: David and Jodi

We have several children praying for sponsorship.  Won't you contact us today and share your family and the love of Jesus Christ with a child in Belize, Central America.

Antioch Team Great Week at Hearts of Christ in Belize

The Antioch team has had a wonderful week.  It was filled with serving in many villages in Belize.  Discipleship, providing bunkbeds and food for families in need were just a couple of their ventures as they served in Belize.  Bless you Antioch team for all the blessings you scattered throughout Belize this week!

Antioch Team; First Time at Hearts of Christ in Belize

The Antioch Team is on mission in Belize at Hearts of Christ Children's Ministry.  They are involved in discipleship, building and delivering bunkbeds to needy families and distributing food in villages.

Pastor Pete has met his sponsored child for the first time!  Changing souls one child at a time!

Alicia is teaching the ladies how to make tortillas.  Chicken Enchiladas tonight!  So thankful to the Lord for all the servants sharing their servant's hearts!
